Celebrating Black Voices in Ontario Food and Wine

A virtual food and wine event, February 27, 2021 @ 2:00 pm EST

Food and wine are both vehicles of culture and expression. They both deliver the human aspect of terroir on the plate and in the glass. So let's experience every narrative we can.

On Saturday, February 27th at 2:00 pm EST, join Vinequity as we team up with Steve Byfield of Nyarai Cellars, famed chef Suzanne Barr of Suzanne Barr Food, and the fabulous Anushka Granier, owner of Leaf and Bone, to bring you a guided virtual food and wine celebration!

The event features two wines from Nyarai cellars, the Folklore Sparkling and Cadence Red Blend, paired with a 4-course meal made by Chefs Suzanne Barr and Anushka Garnier, and all hosted by wine professional Beverly Crandon. You can enjoy the Full Experience with two bottles of wine and food pairings for $195, or join the event with food or wine alone. You can purchase tickets here and learn about the different experience options available to you.

This event is sponsored by George Brown College for Hospitality and Culinary Arts, Wine Country Ontario, Brock University Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute.

Event Food & Wine Details

The Wine: Nyarai Cellars Wine

Folklore Sparkling:

Folklore is our very first “Spumante” inspired sparkling white wine. This wine was crafted in gratitude of the struggle, sacrifices and hardships endured by our ancestors. This incredibly aromatic sparkling is a beautiful blend of L’Acadie Blanc, Chardonnay, Muscat Ottonel, Sauvignon Blanc, with a splash of Gewurztraminer.

Cadence

This delightfully inspired red blend embodies the virtues of classic European varietals grown within the Niagara Region. The blending of Cabernet Sauvignon (63%), Cabernet Franc (26%), Merlot (9%), and Malbec (2%) entice the senses with unfolding aromas of bright red currants, blackberry jam and white pepper. Mouth filling flavours of blackberry, red currants, and bitter chocolate engage the palate with firm but elegant tannins to provide structure.

2nd course - Oxtail Patty Pie + pepper sauce + pickled mustard seeds

3rd course - Braised Brassica + jerk mole
